The Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) and the Qassim Chamber of Commerce and Industry have signed an agreement to coordinate concerted action to promote the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) industry and strengthen the role of ADR in facilitating business and supporting the investment environment.  Areas of cooperation between the two will include, most importantly, support for incorporating dispute settlement clauses into contracts, a venue for hosting SCCA-administered arbitration and mediation sessions, support for arbitration and mediation practitioners’ professional development, and awareness and education activities to promote the highest standards for practicing arbitration and mediation.

The signing ceremony, which was held at SCCA's headquarters in Riyadh, was attended by SCCA Chairman Dr. Walid Bin Sulaiman Abanumay and Qassim Chamber Chairman Mr. Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Al-Humaid. The agreement was signed by SCCA CEO Dr. Hamed Bin Hassan Merah and Qassim Chamber Secretary General Mr. Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Hanaya.

Under the signed cooperation agreement, SCCA will provide technical support for drafting dispute resolution clauses in businesses’ and Qassim Chamber members’ contracts and agreements. The Chamber, meanwhile, will provide a venue for hosting SCCA-administered arbitration and mediation sessions which the parties wish to hold in the Qassim Region.

The agreement also stipulates that the Chamber will host and promote training programs organized by SCCA and will raise awareness of ADR through joint educational campaigns via social media and various publishing channels. It will also ensure that SCCA is included in meetings with delegations and relevant national and foreign business sectors.

The Chamber will promote SCCA activities among its subscribers and hold joint meetings, seminars, and awareness workshops.

Commenting on the cooperation between the two parties, Dr. Abanumay said that SCCA continues to deepen its relationships with business sectors inside and outside Saudi Arabia by forming partnerships aimed at creating integrated frameworks that advance arbitration and ADR practices and support businesses around Saudi Arabia with the best dispute resolution solutions. This will facilitate business in Saudi Arabia and make it an attractive incubator for local and foreign investments.

Mr. Al-Humaid said the signing of the agreement is part of the Chamber’s constant efforts to empower the region’s business community, enhance its investment competitiveness, and promote it as an ideal destination for doing business. This endeavor includes providing ADR solutions for commercial disputes that are congruent with the latest international best practices and standards in the context of Vision 2030.
