After first cohort’s great success in international fellowship program, SCCA and CIArb announce opening of registration for second cohort

Published Date: 30/11/2019

Registration is open as of Saturday, 30 November 2019, for the second cohort of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration’s international fellowship program in commercial arbitration, a training program that is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Pathway program is offered in partnership with the United Kingdom's Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the leading international alternative dispute resolution (ADR) center in this field. CIArb has more than 100 years of experience in developing ADR services for commercial disputes.

The Pathway is among the training tools for institutional arbitration practitioners in the Kingdom, and successful completion will allow participants to apply for membership in CIArb and join the elite ranks of international arbitrators. Program participants can apply to join CIArb at the grade of associate, member, or fellow depending on their level of completion within the program. CIArb membership is accepted in more than 36 countries around the world.

The Pathway, which the two entities recently launched at the website www.SCCA.CIArb.org, consists of three educational modules, starting with legal principles, process, practice, and procedure in Module I. Module II will be on the law of obligations, followed by Module III on evidence, decision making, and award writing. All the modules are based on the international systems and regulations observed in the institutional arbitration industry, most importantly the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Model Law and Arbitration Rules, as well as regional arbitration law.

The fellowship program will be offered in the Kingdom with two parallel tracks, one in Arabic and the other in English, as with the first cohort. Each module consists of three days of training to ensure that participants acquire the necessary knowledge to practice commercial arbitration in accordance with the best international systems and practices.
