The Saudi Center of Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) is mandated to As part of its mandate to enhance the efforts to highlight the international status of the arbitration in the Kingdom, and in order to enhance its distinctive mark in the international alternative disputes resolution map, contributing to achieve its 2030 vision by creating an attractive investment environment, the first “Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration International Conference” (SCCA18) will be held in Riyadh under the topic "The Role of Institutional Arbitration in Economic Reforms and Investment Promotion", under the patronage of H. E. Minister Justice Dr. Walid bin Mohammed Al-Smaani, and H. E. Minister of Commerce and Investment Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, and with at the cooperation of the International Center for Disputes Resolution (AAA-ICDR).
 

The two-day International Conference, organized by the SCCA, offers participants a unique opportunity to review best practices of institutional arbitration within the several international arbitration institutions, as well as reviewing the different alternative disputes resolution (ADR) practices in the region and its challenges, and the role of other entities in relation to supporting the development of the institutional arbitration industry in the Kingdom and abroad. This will be accomplished via side meetings, workshops and discussions and hosting Ministers, dignitaries and international and local arbitration professionals.  The (SCCA18) Conference will benefit all commercial, legal and government professionals and decision-makers involved in contract negotiation, risk management, litigation, conflict management and resolution in the public and private sectors.  Offering senior executives, industry experts and lawyers working in local and international law firms, in-house lawyers in local and international companies and ADR professionals to enhance their skills and engage in practical, relevant debates on the prospects and challenges to the development of the arbitration environment - alongside presentations about the latest updates internationally and the impacts of these developments on arbitration and the investment sector in Saudi Arabia, including the challenges for its institutional arbitration.

Chairman of the SCCA's Board of Directors, Mr. Yassin bin Khalid Khayat, stated that the (SCCA18) Conference will review several challenges facing institutional arbitration in the Kingdom from various legal and commercial points of view, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry Commerce and Investment, and the vital, ongoing relationships with the Council of Saudi Chambers and the private sector. 

Importantly, Mr. Khayat stated that the aim of hosting the “Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration International Conference” (SCCA18)  is to also highlight the strategic local and international features of the Kingdom's efforts to support and promote the arbitration industry, and the strengthening of the relations with the other judicial and relevant  organizations locally and internationally, and to highlight the important role of institutional arbitration in the economic transformation and in creating an attractive environment for domestic and foreign investments.

SCCA's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Hamed bin Hassan Merah, highlighted the  October International Conference’(SCCA18)  variety of  key parallel seminars and accompanying workshops which will involve the elite of domestic and international decision makers, and the international arbitration experts that will review the important topics in the field of institutional arbitration and its role in achieving the 2030 vision, as well as best practices at the world’s largest institutional arbitration centers, and the role of Saudi and foreign courts in supporting both local and international arbitration.  Also discussing the increasing role of the institutional arbitration in the Investor-State disputes settlement, and the issues related to oil & gas, constructions and contractors disputes. Dr. Merah announced that the (SCCA18) Conference will be the forum for launching several of the SCCA's key initiatives in presence of many leaders from the local and international commercial, government and ADR professional communities.
