Extending their strategic cooperation in service of Qassim Province businesses, the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) and the Qassim Chamber of Commerce and Industry inaugurated an SCCA venue in the province yesterday. Qassim Chamber is hosting the SCCA venue at its headquarters to give businesses in the province access to SCCA package of institutional dispute resolution solutions. This will help foster the financial and business environment in Qassim and enhance the investment competitiveness of the province.

The SCCA venue was inaugurated by SCCA Chairman Dr. Walid Bin Sulaiman Abanumay, Qassim Chamber Chairman Abdulaziz Bin Abdullah Al-Hamid. Also present were SCCA CEO Dr. Hamed Bin Hassan Merah, Qassim Chamber Secretary General Muhammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Hanaya, and several executives from both organizations.

The inauguration of the venue followed a joint seminar held by SCCA in cooperation with Qassim Chamber called “Alternative Disputes Resolution in Commercial Disputes: For a Secure Commercial Future.” Several businesspeople and lawyers in Qassim Province and Qassim Chamber members attended the seminar, which introduced the theory and practice of ADR. It discussed commercial mediation as a consensual alternative that helps sustain contractual relationships, institutional arbitration and its added value, and the keys to enabling commercial arbitration and mediation in Saudi Arabia.

The inauguration of the SCCA venue at Qassim Chamber follows through on the cooperation agreement signed between the two organizations in May. Under the agreement, SCCA will provide technical support for drafting dispute resolution clauses in business establishments’ and Chamber members’ contracts, while the Chamber will provide a venue for hosting SCCA-administered arbitration and mediation sessions that the parties wish to hold in Qassim Province.

Commenting on this step, Dr. Abanumay said that the inauguration of the SCCA venue in Qassim Province strengthens the SCCA’s relationship with the business community in Saudi Arabia in general and Qassim Province in particular. It also reinforces the SCCA’s role in supporting businesses of all types by providing them a package of institutional dispute resolution solutions and by boosting ADR practices to a level consistent with international standards and best practices.

Mr. Al-Hamid said this step is intended to enhance the financial and business environment in the province and support private-sector confidence in ADR, especially institutional arbitration. By hosting the SCCA venue, Qassim Chamber will foster the business environment in the province, improve its investment competitiveness, and promote it as an ideal destination for doing business.
