About the Speaker

Kathryn Monahan Ainsworth currently works part time as an international consultant and trainer in Rule of Law development efforts. During her career, Ms. Ainsworth has worked in/on programs in twenty different countries. Before retiring from full-time international work, she served as Senior Deputy Regional Director for American Bar Association, Rule of Law Initiative (“ABA ROLI”), Middle East & North Africa Division, stationed in Jordan (2004-2008). More recently, in addition to periodic trainings, Ms. Ainsworth served in interim leadership positions for ABA ROLI in Egypt (2011-12 & 2016), the Philippines (2013), China (2013) and Libya (based in Tunis 2016-2017).

Prior to her international work, Ms. Ainsworth practiced law for fifteen years, served as senior policy advisor for a former Governor of Maine and was a partner in a mediation, facilitation, and arbitration firm. As a lawyer and mediator, she taught Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University Of Maine School Of Law for six years. Ms. Ainsworth holds a J.D. from the University Of Maine School Of Law and a B.A. from the University of Iowa.

Ms. Ainsworth is a past President of the Maine Association of Mediators and the Maine Bar Foundation and is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and the American Bar Association. She has received honors for her work to ensure justice for all and for advancing the role of women in the legal profession. Ms. Ainsworth currently volunteers with the Refugee and Immigration Services legal program in Maine which helps ensure low-cost legal services for low-income refugees and immigrants.
