Peking University Law School hosted Dr. Hamed Merah, CEO of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), at the University’s campus in Beijing as part of the roadshow organized by SCCA to China in conjunction with its participation in China Arbitration Week 2026.
Dr. Merah was received by Prof. Dai Xin, Tenured Associate Professor and Vice Dean at Peking University Law School, in the presence of a distinguished group of Chinese and international law students. The meeting reflected SCCA’s commitment to strengthening academic and professional engagement and exchanging expertise in the legal field. Peking University is among the world’s leading universities and was ranked 14th globally in the QS World University Rankings.
The session began with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dai Xin, who noted that legal discussions concerning Arab countries and the Middle East are typically held with foreign experts, making this meeting an opportunity to engage directly with a source from the region. He also outlined the structure of Peking University’s legal academic programs and highlighted the diverse academic backgrounds of the attending Chinese and international students.
The session included a presentation on key developments in Saudi Arabia’s commercial arbitration and dispute resolution landscape, including legislative, judicial, and governmental developments that have contributed to positioning the Kingdom as a secure seat for arbitration and strengthening its international presence. It further emphasized the role of SCCA within Saudi Arabia’s broader arbitration ecosystem.
The presentation was followed by an open discussion and direct dialogue between Dr. Merah and the attendees. The dialogue addressed a range of topics related to arbitration, along with the students’ experiences and legal interests.
