Overview

SCCA Roster of Mediators is composed of highly regarded professionals from the business and legal communities. Candidates wishing to apply must demonstrate strong credentials, have an appropriate level of experience, academic qualification, and training in mediation.

What Are The Minimum Requirements?

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements (subject to change and annual review):

  • He/she must complete and pass the exam for SCCA’s Mediation in Commercial Disputes training program or any other training approved by SCCA;
  • He/she must have experience obtained by serving as a mediator;
  • He/she must have academic degrees and/or professional licenses appropriate to the field of expertise.

Applicants that have been appointed as mediators in at least 3 cases administered by SCCA shall be exempted from the requirement to successfully complete SCCA’s Mediation in Commercial Disputes training program. The exemption shall apply whether they are appointed by SCCA or by the parties.

Senior experienced international mediators that have served as mediators in at least five cases administered by leading international institutions shall be exempted from all the above-mentioned requirements.

NOTE: Meeting the above requirements does not lead to automatic admission. A review process by the SCCA Board of Directors follows that evaluates, among other things, a candidate’s substantial experience in ADR with at least three years of business or professional experience in the legal or judicial field or experience in other fields, including engineering, construction, energy, and accounting, among others. In addition, candidates must be in good standing, have not been found guilty by a court or disciplinary tribunal of misconduct, and be held in the highest regard by peers for integrity.

SCCA offers various courses throughout the year in Saudi Arabia in both Arabic and English. Courses are geared towards providing the trainees with mediation skills in line with best practices. More information on the offered courses is available here.

How Do I Apply?

SCCA accepts applications throughout the year. Applications must be submitted using the SCCA Online Application Form (please be prepared to upload any required documents). SCCA does not charge any application fees.

SCCA reviews applications on an ongoing basis and follows up with candidates if any relevant information or documents are missing. In case the minimum requirements are not satisfied, SCCA will invite the candidate to apply again once these are met.

Applications that meet the minimum requirements will be reviewed by SCCA and its Board of Directors on a quarterly basis. The outcome of an application received before:

  • 15 February will be announced by 15 April. 
  • 15 May will be announced by 15 July. 
  • 15 August will be announced by 15 October. 
  • 15 November will be announced by 15 January.

In case a candidate has been approved for membership, he/she will be notified and requested to pay a one-time registration fee SAR 1,500.

What Should I Upload When Applying?

Candidates should upload the following documents:

  • Resume stating experience, education, and training in adequate detail (an English version of the resume is preferred);
  • A copy of the candidate’s Passport or Identification Card;
  • Proof of successful completion of SCCA’s Mediation in Commercial Disputes training program;
  • Any other academic or experience certificates that demonstrate the level of mediation experience.

Candidates are invited to upload the following documents:

  • Certificates, recognitions, and publications indicating leadership in the field of expertise;
  • Membership in professional associations;
  • Language(s) fluency.

Membership Rights And Obligations

  1. Members shall be dedicated to upholding SCCA’s Code of Ethics for Mediators.
  2. Members shall devote sufficient time and efforts when appointed on SCCA-administered cases. 
  3. Members are committed to participate in continuing legal education programs. 
  4. Members enjoy certain discounts and priority seating at SCCA events. 
  5. Members receive SCCA publications. 
  6. SCCA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to admit or refuse the admission of any candidate and to remove at will any member from the SCCA Mediation Roster at any time. 
  7. SCCA Mediation Roster Membership is provisional for one year and shall be renewable automatically, unless the member is notified that his/her membership will not be renewed. 
  8. Unless advised otherwise four weeks in advance, members shall pay a one-time registration fee SAR 1,500. 
  9. SCCA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to require, revise, or waive an annual membership fee for any or all of its members.
